According to 2011/12 HBS the basic needs poverty line is 36,482 Tanzanian Shillings per adult equivalent per month and food poverty line is 26,085 Tanzanian Shillings per adult equivalent per month.
Using these two poverty lines, more than a quarter (28.2 percent) of the Tanzanian population fall below the basic needs poverty line and 9.7 percent falls below the food poverty line.
