Census 2012
The 2012 Population and Housing Census of the United Republic of Tanzania was conducted on the 26th August, 2012. This was the fifth census after the Union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar in 1964. Other censuses were held in 1967, 1978, 1988, and 2002. The data from the 2012 Census was used to assess the Tanzania Mainland Development Vision 2025 and Zanzibar's Development Vision 2020. It was also used to evaluate the Five-Year Development Plan 2011/12 – 2015/16, the National Strategy for Growth and Poverty Reduction (MKUKUTA) for Tanzania Mainland, and the Strategy for Growth and Poverty Reduction in Zanzibar (MKUZA), as well as the Millennium Development Goals for 2015.
