This report presents the official Quarterly Gross Domestic Product (QGDP) estimates of Tanzania Mainland for the third quarter of 2009. The compilation of QGDP aims at facilitating frequent interventions into the economic development of the country.
In this report, the growth rates are measured through the percentage change of QGDP between the current year and the previous year. For example, the growth rate for the third quarter of the year 2009 is the percentage change between that quarter and the third quarter of 2008. However, in order to discount seasonality effects, the change has also been measured between the adjacent quarters of the same year.
The real Gross Domestic Product at market prices is estimated to have increased by 7.1 percent in the third quarter of 2009 compared to 9.1 percent in the third quarter of 2008.
In absolute terms, the QGDP for the quarter was 4,705,955 million shillings in 2009 compared to shillings 4,394,075 million shillings in 2008
