The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) undertook the Census of Industrial Production 2023 (CIP 2023), covering four industrial activities classified under ISIC Rev. 4, namely: Mining and Quarrying; Manufacturing; Electricity, Gas, Steam and Air-Conditioning Supply; and Water Supply, Sewerage, Waste Management and Remediation Activities. The CIP 2023 was implemented jointly by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the Office of the Chief Government Statistician (OCGS), Zanzibar, and other key stakeholders.

The objective of the CIP 2023 was to generate reliable and timely industrial statistics as one of the major inputs for measuring the sector's contribution to the economy. It also provided benchmark data for subsequent surveys and analyses to support planning, evidence-based policy formulation, and informed decision-making.
