Population and Housing Census

The Population and Housing Census is a process of collecting, processing, analysing, evaluating, publishing and disseminating of demographic, economic, environmental, and social statistics of all people and their residence in a country for a specific period. The Census is conducted in accordance with the Statistics Act, CAP 351, and also conducted to meet international requirements for countries to conduct a census at least once every ten years. The results of the Population and Housing Census help to increase transparency in the allocation of existing resources to all administrative levels based on the available population. Additionally, the Census results will as well be used by the Government and stakeholders in monitoring and evaluating various national, regional and international initiatives including the National Development Vision 2025 and Zanzibar Development Vision 2050; the Third National Five-Year Development Plan 2021/22 - 2025/26 and Zanzibar Development Plan (2021/22 - 2025/26); the East African Community Vision 2050; Southern African Development Community Vision 2050 and the African Development Agenda 2063.
